About Plantin Schoolbook
Plantin is based on type cut by Robert Granjon. It is known that the printer, Christophe Plantin (1520-1589) used the ascending and descending characters in his alphabet and the entire design came into use after his death. The Monotype recutting, made originally in 1913, was done with modern techniques in mind. The Plantin italics are compact and regularly sloped. The Plantin font family is an ideal all-purpose face, narrower than it appears, thus economical to use and pleasant to read, and its large x-height makes it readable in small sizes.
