ITC Situations font

ITC Situations, as described by its creator, illustrator Deborah Zemke, is a collection of "puns, exaggerations or absurdities." Of the 80 images included in the font, one may encounter a penguin conducting music, a skateboarding cow, a walking briefcase or a man eating cash. The images were originally drawn by Zemke for a series of self-promotional postcards she has mailed over the years. When creating the DesignFont for ITC, Zemke redrew the series to keep the line weights consistent. She also needed to simplify the detail in the illustrations so that they would work as a font. "I had to imagine how they would work large and small," she says. Although the font includes a handful of oblique visual jokes, such as "birthday quake," "bird on a wire," and "annual celery," all of the images can be used to communicate a variety of messages.
