With digital imaging of type came new visual illusions that inspired French designers Roselyne and Michel Besnard to develop ITC Odysse. The serifs on ITC Odysse recreate the virtual lines formed by "optical residue" on TV screens, which appear to be horizontal serifs trailing off to the right of the character. Michel Besnard, a painter, teacher, and Roselyne Besnard, a graphic and textile artist, initially designed ITC Odysse in 1983 for an embroidered alphabet primer. After many incarnations, this new digital version restores ITC Odysse to its true typographic form, in all its vigor and beauty. Their search for legibility and clarity dominated this design and yielded simplicity in the curves and vertical lines. The ITC Odysse family includes seven weights and styles: light, medium, and bold with italics, as well as an ultra.
