ITC Mithras finds its foundation in the worn, but elegant letters carved into altar stones of a Mithraic temple in Scotland. Capitals are narrow while the lowercase is open and full bodied. Individual character curves in ITC Mithras vary subtly from letter to letter; this subtle contrast gives the face a mellow and particularly inviting appearance. Character shapes are easy to read and the face's proportions add to its legibility, making it applicable to a wide range of display uses. The typeface is a creation of Bob Anderton, who was trained at the Liverpool College of Art and is now the principal of Anderton Overton Design.
