ITC Cheltenham font

ITC Cheltenham is another example of how a popular old typeface can be restyled and brought up-to-date while still retaining the flavor and basic characteristics of its original design. Created by architect Bertram Goodhue for the Cheltenham Press in New York, Cheltenham Old Style was originally cut for the Mergenthaler Linotype Company, and then sold to the American Type Foundry in 1902. At ATF, Morris Fuller Benton created additional weights and styles, filling out the family. In 1975, Tony Stan was commissioned to develop an ITC version of Cheltenham. Stan increased the x-height and improved the italic characteristics of the design. Stan created a full Cheltenham series with four weights (light, book, bold and ultra) in roman and italic. These eight regular versions are matched with eight condensed ITC Cheltenhams - four romans and their italics in the same weights as the romans.
