About Aldus

Aldus was designed by Herman Zapf for the Stempel Foundry in 1954 to complement Palatino. Palatino was originally designed as a display face, and small sizes are too bold for use as text, so Aldus was designed for use as a text companion. The name of the Aldus font family comes from the sixteenth-century Venetian printer Aldus Manutius.

Aldus™ is a trademark of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, which may be registered in certain jurisdictions, exclusively licensed through Linotype Library GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
